A more sarcastic take on this: “We can jettison the white working class: we’ll win w/ the coalition of the ascendant alone. No prob.” Same ppl: “oh no. Bannon says college women are gone & aren’t coming back. Him accepting this truth is the death of the Republican Party. RIP.”https://twitter.com/SelimSeesYou/status/1024376371253063680 …

And let’s be real: we’re talking white college women here. College has virtually zero impact on the voting behavior of POC: they vote Dem no matter how educated or uneducated they are. Funny how that works.

Similar argument but more extreme: “The GOP have lost Bill Kristol & Jennifer Rubin. In exchange they’ve picked up millions of working class Reagan Dems/union voters in the Rust Belt. Was the trade really worth it?” The obv answer is yes. Same vis-a-vis college women here.

This college women arg reminds me of Hispanic outreach/compassionate conservatism under Bush. “Hispanics are future of America so best get on their good side.” What did McCain/Romney do to screw this up? Did they call them rapists? Cause after Bush they bolted to Dems.

My point being: politics is trade-offs, coalition building, winning where you can get most bang for your buck. Instead of coloring inside the lines of the 2012 autopsy, Trump went Coulter/Sailer strategy & won w/ it. It was the only way to win. Paradigm shift/realignment ongoing.

How many easily recruitable young white men (witness the 23 point shift among that demo in last 2 years) do you lose trying to play footsie w/ strong independent college female? That’s the calculus. Is the gain worth the loss? Trump will decide (I say it isn’t werf it tbh).

It certainly wasn’t worth it among Hispanics. Trump said all the right things to get white men out in large numbers, was deebly insulting to Hispanics (rapists, Wall) & still got better numbers than Romney who played nice w/ them (remember the fake tan?) Lesson there I think.
