is trending. Folks, they do. They are called birds. Dinosaurs = the most recent common ancestor of Megalosaurus, Diplodocus & Iguanodon. All living birds are descendants of that ancestors. A chicken is just as much a dinosaur as is Triceratops.

A Willow Tit's nemesis in Nth Europe: shows that Pygmy Owls hunt & cache more tits when preferred voles are scarce. This store has Willow, Blue, Great Tit & Yellowhammer. I've seen a PO nest in containing Hawfinch & Wood Warbler. Tiny, ferocious predators!

This ⬇️ would have been unimaginable when I was a kid. Red kite recovery is a fantastic success story, congratulations to everyone who made it happen. Decline of turtle doves is a disaster; I hope the many brilliant people working to save them can find a way.

Mr. Wakefield, you are the worst thing to happen to public health since the bubonic plague. Maybe worse, since at least that wasn't intentional. Happy Retraction Day!

The new has popn estimates for British birds, showing Marsh Tits down to just 28.5k territories. There's about twice as many Buzzards, 10 times more Bullfinches & 100 times more Blue Tits than Marsh Tits, which are now outnumbered even by Spotted Flycatchers.

Annual Feb. 2nd greeting from an Upstate NY native. When I was a kid, the thought of an active woodchuck burrowing up through the snow drifts made no sense. If he saw his shadow, then we only had to endure winter for 6 more weeks. ???

February is the wettest month of the year for areas in dark blue according to climatology. It's the driest month of the year for areas in dark red. [Note: this reflects rain plus melted snow/ice.]

Hi Tim, since you invoked parsimony initially, I made a little family tree mapping *known* traits often related to colorful display across sauropsid reptiles. :) Approximately 1 in 4 males wont be able to see it though, because mammals are so so bad at color.
