Approximately 10,000 people were displaced in Buffalo, NY, due to expressway construction & "urban renewal." has recently announced that the state will study options to mitigate the damage—either capping, or potentially complete removal (which is the way to go).

Back in the day a resident of Buffalo could pay 35 cents to take the inter-urban out to visit Niagara Falls, then drink some Spray Beers at the Imperial Hotel.
Seems a lot more civilized than the highways and Urban Renewal projects available today.
