Moments ago, following more than 20 consecutive hours of negotiations at , the rail companies and union negotiators came to a tentative agreement that balances the needs of workers, businesses, and our nation’s economy. (1/2)
FACT: the strongest economic growth in almost 40 years, powered by ' American Rescue Plan, has put the deficit on track to drop by more than $1.3 trillion this year.
This is the largest-ever one-year decline.
When took office, over 18 million Americans were receiving UI benefits.
Now, that number has dropped to 1.4 million.
When I addressed my alcoholism, my union supported me.
When I was diagnosed with childhood cancer, my father's union ensured we had medical coverage.
And when it was time to pay the bills, my family had peace of mind through a good paycheck.

We’re on track to cutting the deficit by over $1.3 trillion by the end of this year, making it the largest one-year reduction in the deficit in our nation's history.
In 2021, we cut the deficit by more than $350 billion.
When I first addressed my alcoholism, the labor movement was there for me.
I had access to an Employee Assistance Program.
I had a health plan that covered substance misuse treatment.
And I had my union to root for me and support me.
It's been an honor to serve as your Secretary of Labor.
I leave with a deeper understanding of why working people are the heart and soul of our nation, and a message: never bet against America's workers.

☑️ The economy has created nearly 10 million jobs.
☑️ The unemployment rate has dropped from 6.4% to 3.7% -- the lowest rate in 50 years.
☑️ We've recovered all of the jobs lost during the pandemic.
This year alone, Iowa will receive $1.2 billion to repair roads & bridges, expand public transit, ports and airports and over $110 million for clean water.
As of July 2022, 65,900+ households across the state have affordable internet due to ' Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

It's National Bike to Work Day. I'll leave the biking to , but remain committed to creating more 21st century job training opportunities so that our workforce can build the bike paths and public transportation needed to bring us closer to a cleaner, greener future.
I addressed my alcoholism in my 20s. I know firsthand how hard it can be to ask for help – but I'm thankful that I did.
The pandemic has made things tough for a lot of people, & there should be no stigma around asking for help.

Today, we're seeing the lowest level for initial claims since September 6, 1969. Our historic recovery continues.

Today, reported the American economy added 223,000 jobs in December, and the unemployment rate fell to a historically low 3.5%.
Our economy rounded out 2022 with steady, stable growth, and we begin 2023 positioned to sustain this worker and family-centered progress.
I grew up in a blue collar family and worked in construction – I knew people who got hurt on the job, and even lost their life. I've seen it shatter families and throw communities into grief.

Paid leave is personal to me – as a childhood cancer survivor, access to paid family leave would’ve helped my family immensely. Earlier this week, I hosted a roundtable discussion with employers and workers about paid leave. Stay tuned for a few highlights!
When took office, over 18 million Americans were receiving unemployment benefits. Since then:
➡️ People receiving UI benefits has dropped to 2 million.
➡️We've added nearly 6 million jobs.
➡️Average number of UI claims/week is at its lowest since 1969.
This is historic.
Historically, apprenticeships have been an important part of creating & expanding our nation's middle class.
And now, under ' economic blueprint, the economy is adding millions of good job and registered apprenticeships are making those jobs accessible to more workers.
I know we've faced a lot of uncertainty these past few years. Every recovery has its lessons.
Here's one for Labor Day: never bet against America's workers.
Today in Arkansas, I saw firsthand the impact of ' Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Over 5 years, AR is projected to receive:
☑️$4 billion to rebuild highways, roads & bridges.
☑️$528M for clean drinking water.
☑️$100M+ to bring high-speed internet to every household.
Today, I met with striking members in Lancaster, PA.
Workplaces are stronger when all voices are heard. I'm proud to be part of an administration that is committed to empowering workers and ensuring everyone has a seat at the table.

.' American Rescue Plan boosted our vaccination efforts, put money in the pockets of working families and laid the foundation for our historic economic recovery.
How did the American Rescue Plan support your community?
It’s about being a country where kids don’t grow up in households constantly stressed over bills; where parents aren’t choosing between putting food on the table or replacing worn out shoes.

. just signed an executive order that will make sure federally funded construction projects are governed by Project Labor Agreements.
I've seen firsthand how powerful PLAs can be – this is another step towards building a more inclusive workforce and economy.
