Opioids are safe for the over 90% of people that take them and never become addicted. Are safer than NSAIDS for many and more effective than acetaminophen for most. They have little or nothing to do with the fentanyl/heroin overdose “crisis”. They should be prescribed responsibly

Amen! Yes,when i am reviewing charts i am finding people who are unable to find treatment for pain and are self medicating with alcoholand otcs, sometimes ending in Multi-system failure and death. One was self treating a toothache...

Individuals in pain have committed no crime. We are being treated like convicted criminals - forced to go to doctor every month, forced to pee in a cup like we are on probation, forced to have private info in govt databases. PDMP & pain contracts violate individual rights

Sec Azar, should you have completed this action, prior to being complicit, in unleashing disruption of vital treatments ? It’s extremely careless, especially when blanket prohibition on VA patients without consideration for consequences. Much harm has been unleashed. No impact?

Critical specialty physicians are leaving practice due to reckless CDC guidance. This is increasing the existing shortage. Pts are abandoned in growing numbers and practitioners are afraid to adequately treat leading to emerging crisis. It cannot be ignored. VA practice tragedy

Compounding Pharmacists are in a unique position to help combat the opioid crisis to help patients w/chronic pain by making customized non-addictive transdermal pain meds, while avoiding the use of addictive drugs. This option needs to be an alternative.

Start by mandating that everyone use E-scribing and you will see pharmacy diversion drop almost immediately. Paper scripts get stolen too often, sometimes by the doctor's staff. I'd start here if I was in charge.
