  5. OPA is investigating an allegation that a law enforcement officer threatened violence towards demonstrators over his radio. The case number is 2020OPA-0337. We haven’t yet confirmed that this was an SPD officer. We'll provide updates as they become available.

  6. Chief Best just ordered officers to use mourning bands that do not cover their badge numbers. OPA will continue to look into this issue, including investigating allegations that officers purposefully withheld identifying information from demonstrators.

  8. We hear your concern about how long it takes OPA to complete an investigation. SPD labor contracts give OPA 180 days for this task, which includes reviewing video/other evidence, interviewing witnesses/involved employees, drafting case findings, and getting external review.

  11. OPA is investigating an allegation that a homeless man was hit by an SPD flashbang on Monday night while sleeping in Cal Anderson Park. The case number is 2020OPA-0335.

  13. We're actively investigating the pepper spraying of the girl (2020OPA-0322). Again, it wasn't Ofc Campbell. We can’t legally release names/evidence related to ongoing investigations. We're prioritizing this case and hope to complete it in 60 days instead of the standard 180.
