My favorite complaint we’ve received about the #stayhealthystreets so far:
“The noise level has greatly gone up from children playing in the street right in front of my house... I may be forced to move”
Or just stop trying to permit fee companies out of business. We should've instead subsidized them like we do private car storage.
No permit fees, get payments from city for meeting specific service measurements, minimum required # of bikes &
commitment to service time period.
To the market, to the market the week work is done! Enjoy University, Ballard & W. Seattle Farmers Markets out in the sun 🌞😎🥒🥕🥔🍅

BREAKING: Seattle will permanently close 20 miles of existing "Stay Healthy" streets to most vehicle traffic to create more space for people walking, biking and recreating, even after the pandemic ends.
There've been lots of other crashes. But let's not forget the truck driving into the bank lobby.
Luckily nobody was waiting at the bus stop when it happened.
Farmers insurance on #safe35th just got a makeover, thanks to out of control driver. Driver must have been going pretty fast headed east on 75th, through the light and left on 35th. Completely destroyed corner wall. Not even a lick of snow settled here yet. Slow down, people!
Your periodic reminder ~8 wks into this lockdown, #safe35th still doesn't have protected bike lanes, despite a decade of community outreach/input, the PBLs being fully designed & days from being striped back in March 2018 before
We can't get enough of this!
Every morning the city of Tirana wakes up to new pop-up bike lanes! It's only a matter of hours before they become full of life from bikers, children and the elderly
Sidewalks become mainwalks, and idle parking becomes an artery of life
U.K. Government Boosts Bicycling And Walking With Ambitious £2 Billion Post-Pandemic Plan. https://forbes.com/sites/carltonreid/2020/05/09/uk-government-boosts-bicycling-and-walking-with-ambitious-2-billion-post-pandemic-plan/#7222cd0a3d7c…@grantshapps delivers!
is better because you're there. You and your team are amazing, and while we and SDOT may be at odds at times I hope you know we appreciate every improvement. ❤
We've seen how parking needs have changed during the #COVID19 pandemic. The @CityofSeattle and @SeattlePD will temporarily ease some parking regulations to better support residents’ and businesses’ needs during this time. Learn more https://fal.cn/37cZY
Pretty sure they're talking about ATU. If we're paying someone it's news to us... But yeah, give that lobbyist a raise! We support the nefarious plan to "divert ever more tax dollars from roads" and towards a sustainable transportation system.
Does Salmon Bay Sand & Gravel sells cinder blocks?
That'd be epic-level poetic justice: cargo bike flotilla shows up, buys cinder blocks, turns every Seattle not-really-protected bike lane into protected bike lanes while SBSG continues obstruction of completing BGT #MissingLink.
Anyone have a truck and know where the best local prices on cinderblocks is?
I'll contribute $$ and time to install them along every Seattle "protected" bikeway. #VisionZero twitter.com/DCDOTRA/status…
“it seeks to tilt the playing field, remove objective criteria”
You are so right. We need to get rid of this legacy funding model where vast majority of funding goes to hwy/road construction which all data, for decades, has shown is a waste and will just create more #traffic.
“Puget Sound rgn, transit‘s forecast to get lion’s share of transpo dollars”
Yep. Still w you. The economic engine of WA State gets funding for #transit which allows it to subsidize all your exurban, E WA readers.
Keep going. We are 100% on board this train.
“poor/working-class suffer most, because they drive more, can least afford congestion costs”
Wow! Thank you for finally getting on board w this!
Totally right! Poor/working class least likely to own cars. Awesome to see
“Seattle area drivers wasted 62.7M gallons of fuel in 2017”
Can’t express how happy we are to see ST Ed Bd finally getting on board and joining the rest of the world in addressing the boiling of the planet.
Thank you!
”
That’s unacceptable! $20K?! To multiple people? Thank you for highlighting this may not be a living wage.
But aren’t you the old white people who constantly back biz lobby?
“a Seattle lobbying and advocacy group supported by labor and big corporations that profit from transit spending”
Wait.. whut... aren’t you guys the ones who keep pushing BS trickle-down policies because of the businesses who employ the city? How are you against capitalism now?
“it’s a tactic to prevent funding of new, general-purpose road capacity”
OK, yep, we are still with you. Love to see ST Ed Board get out of their Mercer Island compounds and actually interact with data. Full applause for this.
“The bills replace that with requirements that projects reduce emissions and fuel consumption”
OK, I think the entire planet is on board with you here. Nice to see you finally show up.
Wow, this op-ed is a parody of carburbia op-ed’s
“it’s a tactic to prevent funding of new, general-purpose road capacity”
Ooookkkkaaaayyyyyy... and since all data says that has never worked... the point is...?
So proud to be part of the insidious @TranspoChoices' emotional 2020 honey-trap fantasy! https://seattletimes.com/opinion/editorials/legislators-reject-harmful-transportation-scheme/…
Stop forcing people on foot to push a button to beg to get permission to cross a street that they're still likely to be hit while legally crossing. #GivePedsTheGreen
This is what inequitable access to power buys you. Here is Seattle’s Broadmoor Country Club, surrounded with concertina wire. The club pays just $34,000 in property tax on 120 acres of pesticide soaked grass. That’s just 0.5% of the property tax paid by the surrounding houses.
! Ea street parking space in city should be paid #parking & charged by the foot.
We suggest demand-based pricing, charged per hour, but never goes to $0/hr. Min $0.50/hr seems reasonable for storing your personal earth-destrying property in public ROW. https://twitter.com/transitrunner/status/1188204325094379520…
