If you live in San Francisco, & especially if you have a family, you should be trained in how to use a firearm & own one

Ruger Gp-100 is a fine revolver IMOhttps://twitter.com/micsolana/status/1413881641504751624 …

A Glock 19 would be far easier to control, holds more bullets, and can reload faster than a revolver. Most people are not going to shoot like Jerry Miculek:https://youtu.be/WzHG-ibZaKM

This. The GP100 is indeed a fine gun. Nothing wrong with it. But not what I'd tell a new shooter to go with.

People are weirdly obsessed with revolvers for self defense. You cannot even attach a light as easily to a GP100. Bad guys come at night, and California could likely have numerous power outages in the future (assuming California's politics remain progressive).

I asked a 30 year police veteran what handgun he’d recommend and he said revolver, because it always fires. No jams, no safety, no “forgot to rack the slide,” etc.

That person is a cop, and most revolver liking cops don't shoot. That nonsense misleads people into carrying less effective firearms.

Listen to people who are actual shooters, who fire lots of rounds and train often.

Something like a compact revolver that you can shoot out of a sweatshirt pocket could work, but why not just have a modern reliable gun?
