Why? I think it's a serious enough threat to the core purpose of universities that a more serious sanction is perfectly warranted. It's not the type of things you're likely to accidentally do more than once or to be wrongly accused of.

Reminds me of an anecdote when Reagan was confronted by student protestors shouting “we’re the future, man!” , he scribbled “I’m selling my bonds.” on his notepad and showed it to them.
