    I promise that every reporter at the Parsons Sun has received threats from this community. I'll never forget when a coach rushed me, came within an inch of my face and told me, "I will end you." Nobody is perfect. The world needs more love, compassion and fellowship.

    The Kansas Press Association sent out this e-mail today following the shooting at the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Md. I wish I had some thoughtful platitude to contextualize the state of our country and industry. But I don't. America is under attack, plain and simple.

    You gave all you had as a tremendous editor, and that's always enough.

    Today was one of the saddest days of my 37-year journalism career as we shuttered the DieHards brand along with other Cox Media Group properties. All of us worked so hard to make this effort work. But it wasn't enough. Too many others in this business know exactly our feeling.

    Communication is ultimately key on both sides. Athletes, don't fail to show up for a workout then give an excuse, no matter how valid, after the fact. Coaches in return will allow for flexibility and freedom.
