This is sickening. Almost 500 koalas have been killed during logging in Portland Victoria. They had found homes in the plantation trees. They should have been moved before felling. There would have been a solution. The board of directors of & should be ashamed.

Looking back on this period, our descendents (if we have any) will decide we took leave of our senses. Faced with the greatest crisis humankind has ever encountered - the collapse of our life support systems - we did battle instead against imaginary rules about bent bananas.

Super busy field season almost done with healthy samples of GPS tracking data from Kermadec Petrels & Red-tailed Tropicbirds. Plus great returns of GLS-tracked White-necked and Black-winged petrels.

Seeking recommendations: What tracking devices do you use to record flight altitude of (>1kg) if recapture is not possible (GSM or satellite data transmission)? Thanks. Please RT

Special moment! Just moments before, this pair of White-necked returned to their nest together. The female laid an egg while the male sat patiently, and this is her first contact with the egg. I’ve been following this pair for 3 years.

Why does the need protecting? Because if NZ doesn’t protect one of the deepest trenches & most active hydrothermal vent fields on the planet, mining companies will come calling. Protect & fund science. That’s the future. Not exploitation & destruction
