Personal acct. Views are my own, NOT my employer - obviously. Libraries don't opine on govt corruption, share geekery, or babble about a director's day.

Let me get this straight. State level GOP leadership actual believes our kids are dressed up as cats during sch and are defecating in litter boxes while our teachers distribute porn. Welcome to the 2023 legislative session. Enough! Our kids and schools don’t deserve this.

Republican playbook: 1) Run up the debt to give historic tax giveaways to billionaires and corporations 2) Complain about the debt you created when a Democrat becomes president 3) Falsely blame the debt on Social Security and Medicare, hold the economy hostage to force cuts

I’m gonna talk about something that I’m not supposed to talk about. I’m a 37 year old with dentures. I was dirt poor for most of my adult life, and worked jobs that didn’t offer dental care (hospitality/serving). Small problems like cavities became BIG problems.

So, my Twitter now has two tabs at the top. There is no explanation, but it looks like 'following' means people I follow, and 'for you' means people I follow plus a whole lot of right wing propaganda. No neutral, no left, just right wing. It's amazing. Facebook x 2.

Let’s be clear. Lawmakers in Indiana—or anywhere else—who introduce or support legislation based on pure misinformation and fear mongering are an embarrassment to the legislative process. You know who you are. 1/3

Just saw a tweet with a right wing group crowing about getting a state to purge voter rolls. Which other rights do you lose if you don't use them often enough?

What they say is they want to ban books with sex. What they do is ban books with queer people. What they want is to ban queer people.

HEPL library board meeting tomorrow evening 1/26 at 6:15pm. They are reconsidering a children’s book by Taye Diggs titled “Why?”. No sexual content. They’re targeting a book discussing events related to inequality and injustice.

It will never not be funny how grown men are terrified of the city, and then you drive around, north and south, and see playgrounds with parents and children having the time of their lives on a pretty day.

Stopped bringing your family to @Cardinals games because of crime? Stopped bringing your babies to @StLouisBlues because the city is unsafe? See so much potential in our historic, beautiful city go to waste as crime sours and elected leaders in the city turn a cheek? #moleg 1/2

Just got some Josh Hawley. At least he claims to be from Missouri. 🙄 But I still find it CURIOUS that only right wing fringe types are coming up as "popular in your area" when I live in the north end of St. Louis County!

And piss off the GOP base so they'll vote. Most of the controversial bills I'm seeing are to stop largely imaginary things, or to use a rare concern to craft loosely worded legislation in order to ban a lot of reasonable things.

If it seems like all of us in red states are fighting the same battles, it’s because we are. Our legislators don’t write their own bills, ALEC writes them. It’s hateful copy/paste legislation meant to benefit the wealthy and keep the rest of us fighting every day to wear us out.

What's amazing is the sheer disingenuousness of GOP congress critters nowadays. The GOP pols in my feed can't possibly believe half of what they say, & know full well they're misleading people. (The few Dems I see are usually making position statements instead of spreading FUD.)

Is it sufficient to have conservatives, or must they be book banners? Most cons used to support libraries and making many points of view available, but these new right wingers are book banners who want to erase all knowledge of LGBTQ+ and education about racism from the earth.

As far as I can tell, there is no affordable office chair that sits high enough to be comfortable. They all max out so that I feel like I'm half squatting. I must have unusually long leg bones.

The Boards must have ideological equality? By what measure and method does one make sure that the board members themselves fit the ideological requirements? How does one define ideological equality?

So a new bill proposed in West Virginia demands "Library boards who make decisions on books must have ideological equality." Read that again. wvlegislature.gov/Bill_Status/bi

I feel like the true hallmark of a failing nation is that I can no longer picture an event horrible enough that it would make our country pause and reflect. Mass shootings? No. A pandemic killing a million people? No. An attempted coup? Nope.
