The age of consent in California is still 18. Sexual assault still applies. This bill equalizes the discretion for whether to also put the person on a sex offender registry. I don’t want that registry clogged up with dumb 18 year olds having sex with 16 or 17 year olds. Do you?

We need to keep educating people on what the age of consent laws are in each state and what punishment standards there are. The misinformation about consent is significant.
