Can we: A. Repeal the Ellis Act? PLEASE!! B. Put forth new legislation to make 100% affordable housing projects (in perpetuity under a legal definition of affordable housing) exempt from a list of regulations like CEQA that slow development?

We need significant change to the Ellis Act. Regarding streamlining 100% affordable housing & exempting from CEQA, that’s already the case under a law I passed in 2017 - SB 35. Under SB 35, 100% affordable housing is by right in 97% of CA cities, including all of the big cities.

“Developers say building more units for wealthy tenants means they’ll move out of their smaller apartments, leaving them available to lower-income renters. An analysis out of the Joint Center For Housing Studies of Harvard found this isn’t happening." http://www.vice.com/amp/en_us/article/z3bnme/tons-of-new-apartments-are-being-built-that-almost-no-one-can-afford#click=https://t.co/ot5FntmQIl …

As usual, the opposition to SB50 completely bullshits its way through its argument. Please read the actual study from Harvard. They cite development restrictions as one of the main impediments to more affordable housing.

The alternative is to listen to the will of the people.

Which people? The 2/3 of Californians who supported SB50? https://cayimby.org/poll/ Californians paying over half their income in rent? Or maybe just those who already enjoy housing securing and have preferences about aesthetics and parking and exclusivity?

Thank you for leading the way on this. I’ve never been more disappointed in the opposition from others in the Senate (who are too cowardly to even vote), from SF Supervisors, and from my own Supervisor

Rafael told me to my face that he believed that building more housing would make it cheaper. Why the flip flop?

Reminder: no emergency need for market-rate housing!
#SB50 doesn't ensure that units are even homes for people who urgently need them. Cap/roll back rents, prioritize protecting tenants & folks w/ no home instead of dev. for rich. Address actual need for deeply affordable homes. - Još 2 druga odgovora
