Rent control is part of the problem. Washington state bans it and together with building a lot more, it has kept the median price of rent and buying housing in Seattle at a fraction of SF
Many of the same SF residents who oppose Trump’s wall have no issues supporting policies that effectively wall off housing in SF to anyone who isn’t rich or fortunate enough to live in a rent controlled apartment

When new condos are built it spikes the speculative “value “ of rent controlled units. Owners then Ellis act them and sell them as TICs, that’s how “more condos” creates more evictions.
