Like many, I'm going to miss Alex Trebek - the consummate host with an easy-going style that always kept the show lively and moving along. I feel fortunate to have a pretty kick-ass memento.

If name-calling is a key part of your debate tactics, remember that commas are your friends. The way you wrote it, goofball sounds like a game. They're about to start goofball! Commas are the difference between: Let's eat, grandma. and Let's eat grandma.

Response to today's column from a teacher: "Where's the outcry from our 'leaders' about the housing & wage crisis in our state? I'm an art teacher. Not once have I ever talked about CRT in my classes! Yet I can't count how many homeless students I have."

Yet when there are reports of actual, ugly division being preached in Florida schools ... crickets. Do you ever wonder why that is?

After being pressured to ban classes that teach "systems of oppression should be the primary lens" through which issues are analyzed, I asked the prezes of Valencia and Seminole St. how many of their classes actually taught such a thing. Take a wild guess.

Some folks used to make the same argument for racially segregated schools. "If a school doesn't want to serve them, they should just look for one that does. School choice!"
Quote Tweet
Replying to @Scott_Maxwell
They have special needs. If the school isn't equipped to provide for those needs, the parents shouldn't choose to send them there. They should choose to send them to a school that can properly teach and cultivate them. This is why school choice. 👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆

Interesting to see Florida's universal-voucher supporters cite special-needs children as beneficiaries - since Florida allows these publicly funded schools to flat-out refuse to serve children with disabilities.

A federal, Trump-appointed judge said he can't trample the Fl. constitution (and voter will) by awarding a statewide sports-betting monopoly to his donor friends at the Seminole Tribe. The judge called the state’s argument “fiction.” This one is on appeal.

The first 2 responses to this column came from long-time Central Floridians who say they're looking to leave simply b/c rising rent has outpaced their income. Noteworthy: Neither is a young service-sector worker we often hear about. A retired teacher & a veteran nonprofit worker.

One of the more embarrassing: When DeSantis' own Supreme Court appointees ruled he couldn't appoint a justice who hadn't met the constitutional requirements for being a lawyer long enough. (Here, they basically said the governor can't overrule math.)

Don't understand Central Florida's housing problem? The average monthly rent is $1,803. Median pay for food-industry workers is $1,996. And food workers represent the 3rd-largest job category in the region. The math doesn't add up.

Do you feel the same way about food stamps? Medicaid money? Recipients should be able to use taxpayer money for booze, smokes or witch doctors? No guidelines for using public money the way it was intended? Is that the "ultimate accountability" - to just "take the money with you"?
Quote Tweet

Actually vouchers have the ultimate accountability. If parents don't like the school they can just move their kids to another one. Vote with your feet - and take the money with you.

Read this. GOP lawmakers don't want you to. It's about the lack of accountability in Florida voucher schools - where high-school dropouts can teach, textbooks can downplay slavery & children of LGBTQ parents can be denied admission. And it's all funded with your tax dollars.
