even the worst, most obviously guilty people have a basic right to a vigorous and competent defense at trial, because cops and prosecutors playing fast and loose with the rules is a much bigger danger to society than any one criminal, no matter how heinous.

i mean, it depends on where you’re a PD or a private defense attorney, but based on my sister, the PDs get paid at least solidly (if not six figures well) if they work for decent governments

and they should get paid solidly, they have an important job! but when I see someone talking about "soulless" people "cashing in" on defending allegedly awful people, I get the strong impression they're thinking Cochran, Dersh, etc., level of rich
