everyone always complains about craft brewers making so many IPAs, but it's kind of like complaining about heavy metal having so many subgenres. there's near-infinite variation and subtlety, if you want to look for it!

like, this doesn't remotely resemble a piney/citrusy Cascade-heavy west-coast-style IPA from ten years ago. they might as well be totally different categories.

see this is my thinking as well, but no matter what other notes are in there some people (whether soap-tasting-gened or otherwise sensitive) are just hard locked out of the whole thing in a way that doesn't even make sense to me from how it hits my palette.

Yeah, and I'm not trying to say "everyone would like IPAs if they just tried enough of them!"—just that there's a LOT of variation within the style (and also many craft breweries make lots of great non-IPA beers)
