what's the worst (either according to relevant authorities/experts, or most personally obnoxious to you) invasive plant in your area? for me it's definitely black swallow-wort, with tree-of-heaven and Japanese knotweed close behind.

oh, that's the one with the red berries with the yellow shells, there was a lot of that around my folks' old house

Japanese barberry for the woods in NY; it's the only thing that seems to survive the deer, and it just takes over the understory.

The worst in our yard is the honeysuckle. I spent so much time this summer trying to eradicate it from the bushes we have along one side of our property. I know it will come back but at least it’s not strangling things right now? But since it’s along the road there may be

neighbors who walked by while I was dealing with it, with my noise cancelling headphones on, muttering things like “fuckers fuckers fuckers” under my breath, and tossing vines over my shoulder onto the street. (I cleaned it all up.)

Close second to the honeysuckle in our yard is the Japanese Barberry. I think the previous owners planted it on purpose. I didn’t know until this summer that the busy by the back door was this, and really terrible. Apparently ticks like it, and its spread in New England was

correlated with rising rates of Lyme disease? Could be coincidence but I don’t need an invasive tick nursery by the back door. It is also thorny, so really hard to properly eradicate. I didn’t notice until I cut that bush down that it has spread to other areas.

You have stumbled onto one my my special interests this summer, so I have a third entry. Though it’s a cheat because I don’t think it’s actually an invasive. But irises have taken over a lot of our yard over the years. I know some people have to work to get them to grow. They are

weeds in my yard. They have happily marched along and pushed other things out. And they can be really hard to dig up completely enough to eradicate. I have been wrestling them out of the ground all summer and haven’t made a dent. I won’t get rid of them all. They’re pretty 2/
