I, too, would be horrified if I worked a register and a customer LICKED their card before handing it to me, and it would have nothing to do with covid

(I also suspect there's at least a 35% chance she's making this up, because doesn't almost every retail store now have customer-facing card readers? there's no handing cards to anyone anymore.)

At my library we still physically take cards. Big chains all have the self service card readers but smaller places might still have the old kind.

I’ve worked in a casino, to licking it wouldn’t be gbe least hygienic thing I’ve seen, but someone doing that in front of you would be horrifying just for the act of doing it alone because… that’s not how we act in public? That’s a sociopathic violation of social norms *first*
