yeah, I think there's a combination of, of course, all the general societal stuff, plus also ~auteur mythos~ and also the startup "we're scrappy but we're a family!" mentality. it's a bad mix.

also the fact that these dudes all end up becoming leads, and having amazing ideas as a solo/tiny dev does not by any means make you lead material yk?

Yeah, absolutely. I do think that's kind of part of the auteur mythos thing, though maybe also related to startup culture and tech industry biases also, the idea that management and leadership aren't whole separate, difficult skill sets
