I saw someone say "don't Al Franken my Cuomo" and I think it's time for at jack to just pull the plug on this whole site

he could have chosen to stay in his seat and insist on an ethics committee investigation if he wanted to clear his name, but he decided (and I think he was right) that the right thing was to step down and take the issue off the table politically.

his replacement, Tina Smith, has been just as good a Senator as he was, and the lesson should be that rather than seeing any particular person as indispensable and thus overlooking their bad behavior, we should want to have a deep bench of capable politicians ready to work.

like Franken, Cuomo has been credibly accused by many people; unlike Franken, he _has_ been investigated, and the AG has determined he broke the law. also unlike Franken, he's refusing to salvage whatever dignity he can by gracefully stepping down.

(of course, Franken has a showbiz personality and craves attention, so he has since sacrificed that dignity by publicly regretting resigning, and whining about how unfairly he was treated, but that's neither here nor there.)

and ALSO also unlike Franken, Cuomo wasn't even good at his job. Franken was a good and effective Senator for the most part, until the harassment allegations became public (but again, so is Smith, without any such issues), but Cuomo has been a disaster in this pandemic.

oh yeah, also I will not be arguing about this. if you're considering whining to me about poor poor Al Franken, who lives a life of luxury as a retired millionaire and has faced no consequences other than leaving the Senate, just block me instead, it'll be much faster.

(if instead you decide to get in my mentions about it, I will simply block you instead.)

so anyway if "[to] Al Franken [your] Cuomo" means to call on him to do the right thing and resign in the face of harassment allegations so that the people he represents can have confidence in their leadership, that is absolutely what should happen.

(for the record, no, the fact that Senator Smith considers Franken a friend is not actually relevant to, uh…anything, here.)

True the comp is a bad one but that's bc AF was pushed out on barely vetted allegations. Very different from Cuomo now, post inquiry. Also, the accusations were never determined to be credible with AF (do you know how poor the vetting was on them? Tabloid level).

I'm blocked for this bit of a challenge. Wow.
