IMHO the "I found marginal notes in this used copy of 1984" joke post making fun of the "I found marginal notes in this used Bukowski collection" non-joke post is, in fact, not particularly clever

nah, it was someone who'd penciled in things like "whoa, this is orwellian!" with an arrow pointing to the "war is peace/ignorance is strength/freedom is slavery" bit
