Maybe it's just how my brain works, but I always find it kind of weird and confusing when guitar people talk about "overdrive" and "distortion" and "fuzz" like they're three different kinds of thing
I would guess "British" probably means overdriving easier at lower volume, and maybe more midrange and treble in the tone, while "American" is bassier and cleaner? But that's just a guess!
