It would be more accurate to say that in certain important respects, the internet's potential to become good was stronger ten to fifteen years ago, than it is now.

We can talk about specific things that were valuable to users and have been shuttered because corporations didn't think they were profitable, without dangerous platitudes about the past being an utopia to which we should try to return. I'm sure we can. I believe in us.
