Cutting into end grain on a narrow board with a hand miter saw is kind of a pain.

But most of the necessary cuts are made (though some surfaces will need a bit of cleanup), all that's left are a couple of dado cuts, and some tricksy bits I'm still not sure of the best approach for. Maybe a razor saw, maybe just a chisel. Maybe a drill press to start them?
