Drops, almost certainly. Boo, ear mites
We've treated him for mites before, and I don't know where he'd have picked them up again, so I'm not sure if it's mites or just general ear gunk, but his ears are def itchy. Moss's are fine, though!

I had an entirely-indoor cat who would randomly have bouts of mites - “where” didn’t seem to figure in. Glad other kitty is ok!

They…aren't exactly friends. They don't fight much, and they're content to eat their meals next to each other, but they don't cuddle or groom each other, so that probably helps in this case
