I think like 6" surform, a short scrub plane, and a 14" or 22" bench plane (maybe low-angle)? also chisels and a mallet, and more bits for my drill/driver, and a set of rasps and files.

@brewergnome you do a bunch of woodworking! do you have any suggestions for essentials to set up a (very) small hobby shop, to do small furniture and maybe guitars? (my basement storage space is I think about 10x15')Show this thread

My dad has A LOT of them, ranging in age from those used by his grandfather, father & uncles, and modern. He can barely give them away during his yard sales down here in South Jersey.

YEAH they are. You can technically true and tune a cheap new one to working order, but that becomes a hobby in and of itself

Seems like maybe something to research good manufacturers, and keep an eye out for used ones on craigslist etc
