some people are talking about this being some kind of gray area but to me it seems obviously, incredibly, dangerously unethical, and not meaningfully different from deepfaking a famous woman's face into a porn video.

a lot of people are also saying "Bourdain would hate this" and that's probably true but I don't think it's relevant at all. lots of people would hate lots of things in documentaries about their lives made after they die, for lots of reasons, the problem here is the dishonesty.
