      1. yes to any sort of burial that lets your body return to the earth 2. it is *absurd* that the Catholic church thinks they get to be in charge of how *non Catholics* can be buriedhttps://twitter.com/alemolina/status/1414620902231183364 …

Washington, Colorado and Oregon are among the U.S. states that have legalized the process of converting human bodies into soil, a procedure the Catholic Church is against. California and New York are seeking to be next in line. https://religionnews.com/2021/07/12/amid-catholic-opposition-states-are-legalizing-composting-of-human-remains/ …

Oh, I should tell my state electeds I want them to support this in MA. For as long as I've had opinions on what should happen to my body after I die, I've wanted to be composted (after any possible/necessary organs have been donated, obvs)

I've never claimed to understand Catholic theology, but the idea that returning one's physical matter to the good soil to nurture more life is somehow an insult to the sacred dignity of humanity is…very bizarre to me. What could have MORE dignity?

I actually don't know what catholic doctrine is re: bodily resurrection after Jesus returns, do they think we just pop up like zombies in the condition we were laid to rest? But if we're divinely restored to life, surely it's not beyond god to do so from scattered dirt, too!

The “must have intact body for the resurrection” is another of my “gosh these theologies sure do believe their omnipotent creator needs a lot of specifically human assistance” quibbles

This is one of those things where Catholicism reminds me of Microsoft in the 90s—always patching w/o looking at the bigger picture. The thing against scattered remains was originally responding to a specific uppity cult that was doing it. Ages later we're still dealing with it

My PSA because we had to face it: The Catholic church *does* allow cremations in the US as long as the ashes are kept together. We had to face not having a funeral mass for loved one or having it while her husband was in hospital because that isn't as well known as it needs to be
