the paint thing, I meant—we lost the original context so we assumed they were meant to be pale and austere, not gaudy as fuck. likewise with (e.g.) Shakespeare, the language is Olden Tymey and most of what we still have that was written like that was deemed Serious & Important…
…so lacking context, we decide Shakespeare too must be Very Serious and not just the equivalent of General Hospital or the MCU
