The fact that Schumer can’t even be arsed to see if “okay, if you’re not prepared to help us reach our agenda items I see no reason for you to keep committee memberships etc” has an effect on either of his crypto-q members is so fucking aggravating

Removing committee memberships is done for misconduct, not for political reasons, and I think it should stay that way. They aren’t just there to move a legislative agenda, they are also there to represent their states, and committee work is part of that.

Given that both of them don’t appear to give a shit whether anyone in their states are allowed to vote at any point in the future, I would argue they’ve already abdicated all responsibility to represent their constituents

Do they actually think that, or do they think that it’s just not going to get to that point?

If they think it’s not gonna get to that point, again, they’ve abdicated all responsibility they have to both the people who voted for them and the people in their states who didn’t, because they’re clearly not paying attention to EITHER the state or the federal situation

Be that as it may, it’s still not a basis for punitive action and within the customs of the body.

One side (and one side only) sticking eternally to customs and norms over ethics and responsibilities is gonna kill us all

Although there’s no indication that either of them are going to do the right thing even if they were stripped of their committee assignments. And that is literally the only tool in the box.
