the black widow character is really the only piece of the mcu left over from iron man 2, the movie where sex briefly existed in the franchise

sex *existed* in iron man 1--tony had a one-night stand--but it was only in iron man 2 that the mcu a. realized frustrated horniness was the libidinal energy driving the franchise, and b. (for that reason) introduced the black widow character

after that, every movie is built around an unconsummated love plot and the characters become increasingly sexless adonii

I think there's a similar arc with Thor, it's been a while but I'm pretty sure Thor 1, while not a horny movie per se, at least presents a world in which horniness is thinkable; but by Ragnarok it's all sublimated into Hemsworth's impossibly hyperarticulated abs
