And in particular making sure people don't have to be hospitalized is really important if there's a new big wave of cases, to keep the healthcare system from getting overwhelmed again. No one wants to see refrigerated morgue trucks in NYC again.

But first of all and most importantly, it is still the case that no one under 12 can get vaxed yet, and delta seems more dangerous to children than earlier strains.

And second, we know that even people who have mild, or even asymptomatic, cases of covid can end up with lasting long-covid symptoms, and we don't know how long those last or what permanent damage they might result in.

And we don't know whether a vaxed person who nonetheless catches delta is at the same risk of long covid as an unvaxed person!

So at an absolute minimum, anyone who regularly interacts with a child under 12, or parent(s) of a child, and lives somewhere where case rates aren't very low, should be taking extra precautions.
