I keep seeing that image on my TL, and I keep thinking about the anecdote that when US military scientists performed the first nuclear bomb test, they decided to go ahead because they'd calculated a "less than 2% chance" of setting _the entire atmosphere_ on fire.

Of course, even if that's not apocryphal, later, better calculations established that the chance was infinitesimal, and when it's told, the point is _usually_ that we should be horrified they went ahead even _thinking_ there could be a 1-in-50 chance of global annihilation.

(and we should!) but now I'm thinking, damn, even then they didn't think there was a chance of setting the _ocean_ on fire!
