My mom's parents smoked her whole childhood, and well into mine—I remember ashtrays in their house. But when Grandma was diagnosed with cancer they both quit instantly. Mom was always very, very anti-smoking.

My grandmother, dying of lung cancer that had metastasized to her brain, apparently maintained until the end that it wasn't the decades of smoking that did it. Blew my fucking mind. (My granddad quit though)
