i lived it but watching movies made before 1995 or so and people *SMOKE EVERYWHERE* is amazing

Every time I watch anything either made in or set before the late 80s I am amazed by this all over again. When I was a kid it was still legal to smoke on AIRPLANES for crying out loud. And yet the last ~20 years have been so easy to get used to it's hard to remember the change.
Oh yeah. I remember smoking sections on airplanes (what a ridiculous idea!) and in restaurants (only slightly less ridiculous much of the time).

Yeah. Cities and towns started their smoking bans just in time for me to get old enough for bars but I didn't even remember that it wasn't until '04 that MA banned it statewide.

Chicago was shortly after I moved here in 2006. That first year was awful any time I went out though.

Yep, I remember the haze that slowly drifted forward from the rear smoking section during the course of a flight.
