it sucks and it's frustrating. these technologies don't help consumers, but they're sold and promoted with dishonest language that most people don't have the expertise to see through, or the background knowledge to recognize the harmful ramifications.

SB/TPM requirements prevent a lot of people who build their own computers from upgrading to Windows 11, make it harder to dual-boot with Linux or other OSes, and push consumers to a more passive, Apple-like, no-user-serviceable-parts-inside, buy-a-new-one-every-2-years model

wow I hate that. Similarly, a few years when I was in the mall, I saw the windows store and legitimately laughed out loud. It was such a ripoff of apple in the visuals, branding, everything that it looked like a comedy sketch!!

I swear that _exact_ "open ultra-thin laptop so you almost don't notice it framing the screenshot" image was on the apple website for years.

You should hopefully still see other manufacturers making machines with user-serviceable parts to an extent. My xps from 2019 can have its ram and storage upgraded at least, while the same cannot be said for most newer machines, particularly convertibles.
