I wrote a lot about this in my first book (Damaged Goods). Modesty Culture is extremely damaging, especially if you don’t fit the mold of what they want. You’re constantly thinking about what men are thinking and worried about your body. It’s heinous.https://twitter.com/kbrenneradam/status/1406301257208324104 …

As someone who was perceived as a woman and therefore instructed on What a Woman Should Be through evangelical culture, I struggled A LOT with body image. Modesty culture did a lot to disconnect me from seeing my own body as a good thing, which has created a lifelong struggle.

What happens in modesty culture - especially with this “Modest is Hottest” thing - is that men are centered in everything, including in the smallest of things, like, how you eat a banana (yes, really).

it's such a weird framing, really. "boys can't be expected to control their own sexual urges if you look sexually appealing, so you should be 'modest', which is also hottest, to boys". it's incoherent!
