The country didn't elect a Democratic president and Democratic majorities in both houses of Congress, on the expectation that they would sit around and do nothing for two to four years.

The way a representative democracy is supposed to work is that the majority party or coalition, within the constraints established by the constitution and courts, governs and makes policy, until they lose the majority, and then the new ruling party or coalition does.

Especially in the last election, when the right wing was doing everything it could to claim it was them or ~Socialism~, a very large majority of voters said "well, if so, better socialism than what YOU'RE selling."
