the way that "get in the fucking robot, Shinji" was and, I think, still is an unironic meme. (I think it's probably pretty fair to say Eva isn't particularly patient or gentle with its audience, but that's certainly different from hating them)
I mean, maybe you're right! I always took it as an endorsement of the "Shinji's just a whiner who needs to Man Up" thesis, but I'm not the world's sharpest media analyst, I could definitely be wrong
