I mean, you can see how the roadway engineers might have thought that the "cars only" signs would have conveyed that!

I feel like that could be a disambiguation issue by category. Like if we say “planes, trains, and automobiles,” truck drivers gonna think, “well, I’m not planes or trains.” Explicitly “NO TRUCKS JESUS NO,” is more specific than “CARS ONLY.”
