American men are CONVINCED they're going to need the FULL MIGHT of their HEMI ENGINE to haul a MAXIMUM LOAD out of the mud to save a baby or something when I'm pretty sure the vast majority of pickup owners never _haul_ anything, let alone anything that weighs multiple tons.

the value of a pickup truck to most people who aren't farmers but still might have a legitimate use for a pickup truck is in the _volume_ of stuff that the bed can hold, not the weight capacity. you might as well just have an El Camino.

If I remember correctly a study was done a few years back for F150 owners in the US and something like 92% used it to haul something 'less than once a year on average'. It's 100% a weird masculinity thing with having a fuck off dangerously huge vehicle rather than practicality.
