(and that zero-death day last June was a fluke, we were back up to high death counts by the winter.) A year ago today there were 68 deaths. just 3.5 weeks before that—April 29 2020—was our worst day, 252 deaths. Happy 41st birthday to me, right?

all this May so far, we've had significantly more days with single-digit death counts than double-digit; and the last time we had 20+ was April 7, a month and a half ago. The last 100+ day was January 3.

this is one of the reasons I'm glad I've kept my own spreadsheet tracking this data, because it's the easiest and fastest way to look back over the last year and a half and get some perspective on where we are now.

last spring was really horrible. April 29's 252 was the worst but we had many days with over 200 deaths, and very few with under 100.
