The author literally doesn't accuse the former prisoner of doing a damned thing that's illegal; under the circumstances, it's not clear whether the behavior they accuse the former prisoner of was even *outrageously* inconsiderate. The author's fantasy fell through, is all.

also it is VERY WEIRD to me that she insists on calling him "my brother" throughout, even though he clearly never truly consented to that understanding of their relationship.
She doesn't even use quotation marks, it's *so uncomfortable*
The author imagined that once freed he would dedicate his life to working with her to free people from prison, like how they'd worked together to free *him*. But then it turned out that now he's out of jail he doesn't want to spend his free life re-entering that space. Weird huh?
