the main problem with my amp cabinet project is that a cheap, slightly bowed bandsawn pine 1x6 ripped down to 1 ¼" widths and then worked with tools that haven't seen use in years, by someone who's been out of practice even longer, is not the best material for precision joints.
conveniently, however, it's cheap and I don't feel bad about screwing up some of the cuts in the process of prototyping, and a better material, like poplar or maybe even oak, isn't a whole lot more expensive either.

and I have at least established that my design for the corner joints is workable.
