oh, how fun, it turns out the dough hook is stuck fast on the kitchenaid, and so far even WD-40 and a mallet have not gotten it to budge

Is there something crusted around the pin? It’s the only thing I can think of that would stick it, since the fit is pretty loose except for at the pin.
not that I can see! I'll let the WD-40 sit a while longer and see if I can get any wiggle.

I don't think so, I'm able to manually compress the spring a little bit from the one side where I can get a thumbnail in.
