while I'm briefly out of twitter retirement, please ask your senators to oppose the Sasse/Merkley "SISEA" bill, which will not do what it claims but will harm a lot of people.
it smells like an ill-thought-through reaction to Kristof's attack on PornHub (itself based on "reports" from a far-right evangelical organization) and it's extremely important to listen to actual porn performers and other sex workers, and people who really research trafficking.
the best people to listen to are the people who will be directly affected, but I know that @RottenInDenmark has also done some good reporting on the "trafficking" panic.
it's widely recognized now (and was loudly warned about beforehand, but by people we as a society basically don't consider worth listening to) but FOSTA/SESTA had the opposite effect from what they were ostensibly meant to. SISEA will be no different in that regard—maybe worse.
until the new year, since I'll be online briefly most days to tweet about The Dark is Rising, I may tweet a little about other things too. But come 1/1 I'm going to be actually-gone gone.
