I'm honored to share that my book ‘Uncontrolled Spread’ debuted at #5 on Best Sellers list. I'm grateful to the many people who helped me during the months of writing, and hope the book helps stimulate a robust discussion on how we can prevent future pandemics.

Despite its name, monkeypox doesn’t come primarily from monkeys. I genuinely tell everyone who is not a virologist that as a top fact, since forever, because it’s not a new virus. I always blame squirrels.

Experts saying “don’t worry about monkeypox” sound like the experts who said COVID was not airborne. We don’t know enough yet, and should not be freaking out, but it is curious. It is “probable” it is ok, but “possible” it is not. Prudence deals with possible.

NYC Testing is lower, making it hard to know whether we are approaching plateau (many prior fakes). We are at an inflection point for hospitalizations & everyone would be smart to take this seriously: test & treat early if you are high risk. Isolate if you are infectious.

There’s 2 possibilities to explain the widespread nature of the monkeypox outbreak: -It’s more transmissible human to human And/or -Conditions were just right for it to spread widely IMO there’s currently more data to support the latter.

So it is really good that the UK is immunizing close contacts of known cases with smallpox vaccine. Such 'ring' vaccination strategies have been shown to be valuable in the past, and are a sensible use of limited vaccine stocks 7/n
