Hint: if you think that a provision of the federal tax code is "sacrosanct," you're doing it wrong

One die hard Bennet fan here in Marshalltown. Jeff Harris, substitute teacher. His wife's with Klobuchar. "Only need 19 more now!" Gotta respect it.

In case it's not too late for this to matter, I think folks in Iowa should be caucusing for Michael Bennet

A big lesson here for tax policy in general. If it hasn’t been estimated, it often won’t be proposed.

I love all these tax commercials as much as the next guy, but it would be even better if lawmakers simplified the tax code for ordinary households so that products like TurboTax weren’t necessary

This was a great read. One of my favorite things was that it wasn't just an empirical political science book; it was unabashedly filled with moral exhortation.

The second-to-last paragraph is interesting. Seems like Murkowski doesn't want a tie vote on the witness question so that nobody has an opportunity to attack Chief Justice Roberts for failing to break the tie.

Much less anti-Sanders stuff this week than I expected. Looks like Democrats are coming to peace with him.

Well worth a read: 's proposal for corporate tax reform:

When you see a good tax simplification proposal, it’s usually doing one of three things: - making the details of the real world matter less for the computation of tax - removing an avenue for tax planning - taking away a carveout that a special interest likes

All of this has implications for efforts to simplify the tax code. If you want to make the tax code simpler, you need to show how your proposal is solving one of the three causes of tax complexity.
